The way we walk!

Unlike many normal businesses, we use our success as a business to pursue our purpose, “to make a real difference to the communities we serve.”

And we don’t just talk the talk, we walk the walk too!

So, I am absolutely thrilled that our Society was recently recognised for the work we do locally at two prestigious award ceremonies. One in Guernsey and one in Jersey!

Corporate Social Responsibility Award

On Tuesday 31st October, we won the Corporate Social Responsibility Award at the 2017 Community Awards in Guernsey.

Our Community Officer, Tanya Dorrity and me!
This award recognises the active involvement of our company and teams in charitable, voluntary or community projects that have had a quantifiably positive effect on the local community in Guernsey.
In 2017, we unveiled our new Community Strategy, which has allowed us to:

• Build better links with the community.

• Champion some key issues and interesting topics by collaborating with volunteer groups and other local organisations.

• Have a presence at more events, deliver more school talks, host more store visits, and volunteer for more positive initiatives than ever before.

Our new strategy has helped us to form new partnerships through our support of amazing causes and projects. Here are some of my favourites, just to name a few!

Autism Hour

Buy a Bulb in support of the St Peter Port Christmas Lights Appeal

Free Fruit for Kids

Jersey Hospice Care’s Planted with Love

Variety Star of the Year 2018

Award for Best Health and Wellbeing Initiative

Less than a week later, we were presented with the Award for Best Health and Wellbeing Initiative at the CIPD Jersey Branch Awards 2017.

This award recognises the many ways we support the health and wellbeing of our colleagues. We recently launched our Colleague Health and Wellbeing Strategy, which goes beyond simply providing support for physical health. We are also focusing on other areas that will have a positive impact on the general health and wellbeing of our employees, such as preventative care, education and awareness, mental health, financial health and belonging.

So far in 2017, we’ve offered free blood pressure checks, in-office yoga classes, stress resilience training, and more!

Taking a more holistic approach to health has allowed our Society to flourish by helping team members reach their full potential, both inside and outside work.

Winning one award is fantastic. But winning two awards in one week is testament to the brilliant work our teams are doing in Jersey and Guernsey.

Massive thanks to my amazing colleagues for playing a part in achieving our Society’s vision. You really are making a difference!
